Job Summary

We are seeking a TS/SCI cleared Senior Storage Engineer for a contract with an Intelligence Community agency in Chantilly, VA.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade and support various storage and backup appliances and associates management tools.
  • Configure and deploy various storage platforms
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies
  • Adhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as required
  • Participate in the evaluation, deployment and management of new technologies in alignment with other engineers and architects
  • Incident support and participation in on-call rotation during off hours and weekends
  • Create and maintain documentation: logical/physical diagrams, run books and other technical engineering documents
  • Consistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes
  • Oversee the Installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures
  • Oversees the updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security
  • Ensures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are collected and regularly reviewed
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in storage and backup technology to assist Federal staff in assessing the future direction of storage and backup technology

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • BS degree and 8+ years of related experience; or equivalent combination
  • Hands on engineering experience with NetApp storage, Brocade and/or Cisco Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks, and other storage technologies and concepts
  • Experience with SAN, NAS and iSCSI storage implementations
  • Experience designing, installing and supporting storage appliances and associated management utilities
  • Experience with capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environments
  • Experience in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup environments
  • Experience with data center migrations and storage replication technologies
  • Senior level experience configuring and deploying various storage platforms
  • Strong experience with design, development, implementation, and maintenance of storage systems, preferably across multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Experience with managing work tasks via tools such as JIRA and ServiceNow
  • Strong experience with design, development, implementation and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware platforms and data centers
  • Strong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components in storage environment
  • Strong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts:  disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet
  • Strong understanding of essential TCP/IP concepts:  TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, etc.
  • Understanding of security best practices, federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG, etc.)
  • System configuration based on security guidelines such as DISA STIGs
  • CompTIA Security+ or similar for IAT Level II DoD 8570 certification
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
